love is the new hate // christopher street day in berlin

Christopher Street Day (CSD) is an annual European LGBT celebration and demonstration held in various cities across Europe for the rights of LGBT people, and against discrimination and exclusion. It is Germany’s and Switzerland’s counterpart to Gay Pride or Pride Parades. Austria calls their Pride Parade Rainbow Parade. The most prominent CSD events are Berlin Pride, CSD Hamburg and CSD Cologne, Germany; and Zürich in Switzerland.

The Berlin Pride Celebration, usually known as CSD Berlin, is a parade and festival held at the end of June each year in Berlin to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and their allies. CSD stands for Christopher Street Day. Since 1979, the event has been held each year. Berlin Pride is one of the largest gay and lesbian organized events in Germany and one of the biggest in Europe. Its aim is to demonstrate for equal rights and equal treatment for LGBT people, as well as celebrate the pride in Gay and Lesbian Culture.– Wikipedia

Last July 23rd, my wife and I travelled all the way to Berlin to attend/watch Berlin’s famous Christopher Street Day. I actually didn’t have any idea what CSD was. I thought it’s different from the actual gay/queer parade. In fact, I was too naïve to initially think that CSD is one of Germany’s sort of holidays. I know that I’m old already and supposed to be experienced and knowledgeable enough but sometimes my ignorance is quite disturbing and it makes me feel like I’m an alien. Seriously.I guess it has something to do with myself, having my own world, surrounded with thick, conservative walls. I’m living in millennial age but some bits of me are somewhat still stuck in retro days. But at least, I’m partly open-minded and partly gay. LOL.

Truth is, I’m not a fan of attending LGBTQ exclusive events. I have attended once and I didn’t quite enjoy it. Maybe because it was a night party. I always have this claustrophobic feels whenever I am inside a club. Sometimes, I even find myself yawning countless times despite of loud music. Worst was, I almost fainted at one party after standing for a couple of hours, because there were no bloody seats available anymore. The only thing I love about club parties are cocktails! Of course. 😛

Surprisingly, I love street parties. That’s why I totally had fun at CSD in Berlin. We actually wanted to stay a bit longer. But my sore feet were screaming for some rest already . Plus, we wanted to maximise our stay there so we decided to go to some other tourist spots, too. What I enjoyed most at CSD street parade was the colourful party trucks, with people wearing funky outfits while some were almost naked. Oh good Lord, I’m too old and far from being a virgin but I still couldn’t stop myself not to be hysteric when my eyes accidentally laid on some not-so-private part anymore on the streets. Lols. See below:

Lastly, I super love the beat of the street music! I’ve shared a short clip with the music from that street party below

and also, the outfits that caught my attention in the crowd.

the original subject of this photo was this guy with his bike, because isn’t he adorbs in his chosen style? perf for my blog! i ended up having a cute photo of this lovely hippie couple, who i just realised now were holding hands. in fact i also didn’t know they were a couple. 😀

To pretty sum up this post, I don’t believe in labelling. I believe that love knows no age and no gender. I was itching to have a little chat and interview these two lovely people/couple who were sitting just next to us but err I was too shy. It’s just a good thing that I’m blessed with fast hands that I was able to snap a photo of them..

and his shoe/s. 😛
