Let me tell you a (not-so) secret about me. Aside from fashion, I also have a penchant for food and cooking. If I’m not working, my favourite place at home is kitchen. My love for food is something that’s understandable because needless to say, I’m an Asian and my beloved Asia, if I’m not mistaken is known for their exceptional herbs and spices around the world. While with my homeland, the beautiful Philippines, I think it was written in our history that one of the reasons why we were colonised was our natural resources, which of course, involves herbs and spices. And as you prolly know, with great spices comes great dishes, and with great dishes comes a drooling human creature, who’s hungry all the time like me! 😀
My love for cooking is a different story though. It’s a passion that started (or discovered) late. My mom was even shocked the first time I told her about my first home cooked dish. Because, Mutzii (and her little lazy arse), is cooking? Seriously. It was like I’m that lazy and incapable of cooking in her eyes that it was a totally shocking thing to her. Well, I tell you what. She munched and swallowed all her sweet little judgment about me in the form of a tasty pasta dish I cooked, pushed through her mouth with a glass of cold soda (with ice cubes!) Dayumm! Haha! This time, she was amazed and begged for my recipe. Because I’m (sorta) a good daughter, I gave my secret recipe away with pleasure but my younger siblings complain that it’s never the same if it isn’t me who cooks it. Even now, my siblings often tell me that they miss my food already, which of course, touches my heart and even makes me teary eyed sometimes. 😀
So, yep, my cooking skill begun with making my own pasta recipe. I haven’t had the chance to develop it though when I was in the Philippines, because I had a very active lifestyle there. To make the story short, I was way way busy with a lot of stuff that cooking was something that’s been unfortunately, taken out from my priorities. We have so many good restaurants that food is not a problem. However, everything has changed when I moved her in Germany. I still have a busy lifestyle but cooking is on the list and a must. Why? First, everything is expensive. The cheapest price of on-the-go meals here is already equivalent to a savoury meal in a casual dining in the Philippines. Second, I can’t buy food here in small servings. Everything is enormously BIG for me. Third, restaurants seem to have the same taste of dishes. I don’t know if I just have a picky palate but seriously, I can’t seem to distinguish the authenticity of the dishes here. In the Philippines, dining in various restaurants that offer a specific country’s specialty makes you travel just by having to taste their dishes. Even our homemade paella there taste like the real Spanish paella. And lastly, the wife is an occasional chef. Actually, very occasional, like she only cooks not even more than ten times in a year. With all these things, I really have to spend some serious time in the kitchen to satisfy my choosy taste buds and my cravings, especially during PMS days. Not to mention, to serve my highness Daria as she loves my food so much. Like today, I made my own version of Greek Salad with Bulgur Wheat, without my fave green fresh herbs because Daria doesn’t like them. It was her one of the many first times and she was again so amazed that she asked me to make more to bring for work – which explains the picture.
Meanwhile, let’s congratulate her for losing 2 kilograms. The effect of her regular jumping rope session, accompanied by healthy food choices like this Greek Salad with Bulgur Wheat. And, guess what!? I also lose weight! I’m almost 40 kilograms from being 42! I was 44 when I left PH. So.. I really think that going green when it comes to food is effective in losing or maintaining a body weight. Or it can be.. because I’m deprived with food I was accustomed with..
